Come and Join a Women’s Only Catered MTB Holiday in the French Alps
We're excited to be collaborating with Emily Horridge MTB Guided Alpine Holidays & Skills Coaching to bring you this incredible mountain biking experience in Les Arcs, France. This trip is organised and operated by Emily, with SheRides Collective partnering to help bring a group of like-minded women together for an unforgettable week of Alpine riding.
Retreat Overview
Whether you're a strong intermediate rider looking to try your first Alpine singletrack holiday, or a more experienced rider who prefers natural trails to bike parks, this trip is for you. You'll need to be comfortable riding reasonably technical red trails, but you don't need to ride every feature or be the fastest in the group. A positive attitude, a willingness to embrace a challenge and the ability to laugh it off if you need to walk a section are far more important. With the support and encouragement of other women around you, it's all about pushing your boundaries and enjoying the adventure!

Day 0 - Arrival Day
Get settled into your accommodation at The Goat Shed in Moulin, build your bike, get to know the other riders
Day 1 - Warm Up
We'll ride a mixture of bike-park trails and natural singletrack, think of it as a warm-up/shake down ride. We'll most likely stay fairly close to home on day 1
Day 2 - Les Arcs
We'll expand the area we cover within the Les Arcs lift system, sticking mainly to natural singletrack with the occasional bike park trail thrown in just to get us from A to B
Day 3 - La Plagne
Today we'll most likely head across to the La Plagne side to sample the singletrack over there
Day 4 - Rest Day
You can choose to ride if you like, but if you prefer a rest this is your day! For people who enjoy active rests, there's loads of activities to do in the area, such as rafting, kayaking, via-ferrata, hiking, paragliding - just ask your hosts at the chalet for more information
Day 5 - Big Day Out!
Perfect timing after your day of rest. We'll head away from the lift accessed area and ride right off the beaten track
Day 6 - Final Day
More singletrack! This could be a "best-of" kinda of day, repeating some favourite trails or perhaps we'll go an explore even more new trails within the lift accessed area. Let’s see how we feel!

This mtb retreat is not suitable for beginners. You should be a strong intermediate rider or above – ideally someone who is very comfortable riding red trails at UK trail centres and occasionally tackles a black.
You'll encounter plenty of natural, technical singletrack, including steep sections, rocks, roots and switchbacks. You should be comfortable riding reasonably technical terrain and happy to take on a challenge. That doesn't mean you need to ride every feature! If something feels beyond your comfort zone, we're perfectly happy for you to get off and walk it. What matters most is having a positive attitude, being open to pushing yourself in a supportive environment and being able to laugh it off if you need to walk a section. You don't need to be the fastest or most confident rider in the world to have a brilliant time in the Alps.
Fitness & Climbing
We'll make use of the chairlifts when riding around Les Arcs, and use van uplifts to take the sting out of the climbs at other times. However, you should be comfortable with up to 500m of climbing (approximately 1–1.5 hours) on the bike each day. The fitter you are, the more energy you'll have to enjoy every last inch of the incredible singletrack on offer!
The Riding
Les Arcs has some fantastic natural singletrack riding beyond its dedicated bike park, with a huge network of trails winding through alpine meadows, mountain terrain and steep forested slopes.
Expect a real mix of riding; from rocky, high-altitude descents and technical switchbacks to tight, flowing woodland trails. We’ll be exploring away from the busier, purpose-built tracks, with some incredible long descents dropping all the way towards the valley floor.
It's a brilliant destination for riders who love natural, varied Alpine terrain and a little adventure along the way.
-
The trails here are not smooth, there are roots, there are tight switchbacks, they're narrow trails in the woods, usually traversing a steep hillside
No jumps, no drops, no berms
You need to be comfortable to do up to 500m of ascent (1-1.5h climbing) on the bike during each day.
-
To access the singletrack we’ll be using a combination of chairlifts (so make sure you buy a 6 day lift pass and pedal power, as mentioned above there’s around up to 500m of climbing each day.
-
Guided riding with Emily Horridge on five days of the retreat, exploring the incredible natural singletrack around Les Arcs and beyond.
Wednesday is a rest day, with no formal guiding. You're welcome to take a day off, explore the local area or make your own riding plans.
Accommodation & Food
You will be accommodated and fed by the wonderful Sophie and Gordon at The Goat Shed. A traditional Savoyarde village property which has been lovingly renovated to provide a cosy and comfortable base for your holiday.
-
The Goat Shed is comprised of a chalet and an apartment (all within the same building), both of which will be used for our trip. There are eight bedrooms in total, so everyone gets a room each. Six of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms and two rooms share a bathroom.
Alongside the comfortable bedrooms in the chalet there is a large open-plan living area with a log-burner, widescreen TV, DVD, Playstation 3, WIFI internet and a laptop for your use. There is a huge selection of films and games, and of course you can bring along your own. On the ground floor you’ll find secure bike storage, a workshop and drying room.
The attached apartment has three large bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, and can sleep up to 8 people. The living area is open plan, with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge with a log-burner. The apartment is equipped with a widescreen TV (UK channels), DVD and free WIFI access.
The Goat Shed is situated in the picturesque village of Peisey. The village centre is 10 mins walk, where you can find a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants. It’s a 5 minute up-hill pedal to the first lift out of Peisey Village to the Vallandry lift which gives you access to the MTB trails. -
A day on the mountain can build up a big appetite, so our meals are plentiful and delicious.
You will be catered for during your stay by your very own chalet chef, Gordon, who is lucky enough to have access to a local butcher, bakery and cheese shop right here the village. He cooks using fresh, local and seasonal produce wherever possible.
What’s Included:
Continental breakfast available every morning
Picnic lunch to take with you on the mountain
Afternoon tea
Three course evening meal served with wine and finished off with coffee - served 6 nights out of 7.
Dietary Requirements
We’ll do our very best to cater for any dietary requirements or preferences you let us know about in advance (at no extra cost). While we aim to offer suitable alternatives where possible, we cannot guarantee that all requests can be accommodated.
-
Sophie and Gordon have one night off mid-week, so for dinner you will be able to sample some of the local cuisine. They can give advice on restaurants and make reservations for you.
A riding community, not just a riding holiday
Coming on a mountain biking holiday with people you’ve never met can feel daunting, especially if you’re travelling solo. That’s why we’re all about bringing women together, helping you make connections and finding your riding crew. We want every woman who joins us to feel welcome, make new riding friends, build confidence and create memories along the way.
But don't just take our word for it… here's what our guests have to say!
